Through the recent amendment to the Industrial Enterprises Act, 2076, the Government of Nepal has formally recognized the vitality of the nation’s hotel sector by enlisting the star hotels and eco-resorts under the National Priority Industry. Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has welcomed this provision enforced by the Ordinance recognizing star-rated hotels and eco-resorts as National Priority Industry. With this crucial change, Nepal’s star hotels and eco-resorts undergo a metamorphosis for their operation, expansion, investment, and decentralization of hotels, helping enhance competitiveness and sustainable growth within the sector. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to supporting industries considered vital for national development.

Meanwhile, the 49th Annual General Meeting of Hotel Association Nepal convened on January 15, 2025, at The Soaltee Kathmandu, as proposed by HAN President Mr Binayak Shah, unanimously sanctioned a special motion of gratitude to the government of Nepal for this legal provision.

This declaration has provided a provision of land on lease as per clause 31 of the Industrial Enterprise Act, 2075, and Industrial Enterprise Rule, 2078. Likewise, the Government of Nepal may, on the recommendation of the Industry and Investment Promotion Board and by a notification in the Nepal Gazette, provide additional facilities and concessions to the National Priority Industry.
